MAXIMUS WINS BACK TO BACK CARGO OPERATOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

UAE’s biggest all-cargo airline picks up third cargo/charter airline title in four years at 2011 Supply Chain and Transport Awards

Abu Dhabi, 10th May 2011 - Maximus Air Cargo reaffirmed its status as the leading player in the UAE’s cargo charter sector with its third Supply Chain and Transport (SCATA) Award in four years. An independent panel of judges recognized the airline for ‘having delivered a superior market-leading service in the Middle East and throughout the world over the past 12 months’.

Vice President Flight Operations, Bassam Abu Hijleh received the award on behalf of Maximus for the second successive year, at a glittering reception held at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel, The Palm Jumeirah, last night, attended by more than 250 top executives from the Middle East transportation and logistics industries.
“We are very grateful to the organisers and panel of judges of the Supply Chain & Transport Awards for naming Maximus Air Cargo as the Cargo Operator of the Year,” said Abu Hijleh. “Under the stewardship of our parent company, Abu Dhabi Aviation Group, our reputation as one of the major players in the global cargo sector continues to grow and earn industry recognition.
“2010 was a strong year with the total number of hours we flew up by 24 per cent over 2009, helping to bolster total revenue by 16.2 per cent over 2009 reaching $117.67 million. On the back of this turnover we delivered a very healthy 18 per cent increase in profit at $10.19 million,” he added, attributing the dual combination fleet capabilities of ACMi + Charter operations.
Maximus has delivered a profit in every single year of operation in the six years since the first flight.
“This is thanks to the guidance and leadership of our board of directors and President and Chief Executive Officer, Fathi Buhazza,” added Abu Hijleh, “and also in large part, to all the highly committed, dedicated, skilled and enthusiastic colleagues. The company has developed a strong productive team ethic and spirit and I know everyone will be proud to share in this prestigious award.”
He also said that the continued strong showing in 2010, gives Maximus an enormous sense of personal pride and confidence for the future. “We are still a relatively young company, but we continue to demonstrate a maturity above our years of operation,” he said.
In an after-awards interview with Robeel Haq, Senior Group Editor of Transport, ITP, Abu Hajleh endorsed the company’s commitment to strong customer focus and stringent safety procedures. “We appreciate that competition is fierce in the market place these days, however by focusing on partnerships with customers, we continuously strive to drive profitable growth for them creating a win-win environment.”

Established in 2007, the Supply Chain & Transport Awards recognise excellence in 16 categories covering the logistics, sea freight and air cargo sectors.
